Every year, a Dog Show is organised by Penny Fenton in a field near Sorley Cross,
by kind permission of John Woodley. Categories for best pedigree, most handsome,
most obedient, veteran dogs, junior handler, most appealing eyes and many more can
be entered for £2 each. Cream teas and cakes are on sale, and there is also a Car
Boot Sale for £5 per pitch.
August: Church Fete
This is the main fund-raising event of the year for St.Mary's church and is held
in the grounds of Whitehall Manor, by kind permission of the homeowners there. There
are stalls for books, bric-a-brac, cakes, ice cream, tombola, and raffles, plus a
coconut shy and other games. Cream teas and cakes are on sale, all provided by local
ladies. There is also a Grand Prize Draw.
December: Christmas Fayre
Another major fund-raising event for the church, with stalls for locally-made cakes,
bottles, bric-a-brac, and the usual raffles and games. Held in the Church Hall.
This is open to all ladies and is held on the second Thursday in the month at the
Church House Inn, commencing 12.30pm. There is no set meal (order from the bar),
no speeches, or singing, just plenty of informal chat and gossip. A special carol
singing session is held each Christmas.
These are held on dates advised in the Village Gazette section of the Kingsbridge
Gazette, and at the Ladies' Lunches, at local homes. Open to all, parts in the plays
are decided by lot, and a small contribution is expected for the loan of the scripts.
A lot of fun!
Every Thursday at 10.30 am in the Church Hall. All are welcome.
Usually held in May in the Church Hall in the morning. Local people are asked to
contribute plants for sale, and invited to buy plants too! Tea and cakes available,
